2010 Wrap-Up & My #1 New Years Resolution

2010 was a pretty normal year.  Well, normal to me, I guess.  (I can't be sure how any other person would have taken it had they been in my size 8 1/2s.)  There was happiness and sadness, discovery and contentedness.  There were gains and losses, and there were disappointments and, as always, there was hope.  My crafting skills became better as do all skills over time, which allowed me for new creativity and projects to make and sell.  I learned new stitches, new ways to market to my customers, new ways to display my items, and I even tried out a couple of new show venues.  I'd say it was a pretty satisfying year.

Although, there is one thing that has bothered me that I plan to get to the bottom of in 2011: I want to take my jewelry to a new level.  My goal is to make more of a name for myself, i.e., to brand myself better as well as to "get out the vote" as the suffragettes once said.  If people don't know what I can do, they'll never know what's available to them.  I don't mean to boast, but I think I can make some pretty exceptional pieces of wearable art and I'd really like more people to enjoy what I've created.  Is that so much to ask for?  I don't want to be the only one to get to enjoy these pieces.  Besides, I'm running out of room on my bedroom wall for all of my necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

On a more personal note, with the recent passing of my dad, I'd certainly like to make more of an impact with my life.  Call it a New Years Resolution or what have you, but I feel like there's a whole lotta creative potential in me that's kinda screamin' to get out.

Love you, Brent.  XXOO

Christmas Orders

So Christmas is only a couple of weeks away and I've made about 20 orders so far and have three more to go.  I'll probably have more after I get my stash to Jeff's mom to look through for her friends and then my mom said people at her work want Christmas stuff so I might have even more.  I really wish I could have kept the money from all the orders I've placed so far, but I've had to keep reinvesting to buy more supplies.  I think by the end it will all come out that I've made some kind of profit.  Ever since my puppy had to have his surgery, my finances have been really screwed up.  I'm making Christmas gifts this year so some of the profit I've made so far has gone to buying supplies for those projects.  But at least I haven't had to take money away from my unemployment income to pay for this stuff.

The Christmas Season

It seems as though Christmas gets earlier and earlier each year.  And something else I've noticed as well is that stores are opening earlier and earlier each Black Friday.  This year Kohl's is opening at 3am.  Is that really necessary?  If people do take advantage of this 3am opening, do they go to sleep before or do they stay up all night and then crash when they get home from shopping?  I guess I just don't understand this.  If I had massive amounts of money I wouldn't go shopping on Black Friday.  I tried that one year and I will never do it again.  It was way too busy and the older I get the more claustrophobic I tend to be.  I'd rather spend money shopping online in my PJs.

My home show at my mom's friend's house went very well.  It was a very relaxed, low-key couple of hours, which was very pleasant.  It was an open house kind of thing where over 100 invitations were sent out and maybe 20+ ladies showed up.  Pretty much everyone who came found one of my items they liked and I also got about 5 different orders I'm currently working on.

I don't know why, but the best part about the whole thing was that I actually had money to spend to make a FireMountain order, and with the things I had to order to make the new pieces, I got to order beads to make myself some things.  It's always nice to have money to get the kinds of beads you want and not always be making stuff for other people.

I think I'll probably be a little burned out after I get these orders done.  But I will press on because Christmas is coming up and I have stuff to make for family members' gifts.  And some knitting and stained glass projects to do, too.
